Robin Beck - Livin' On A Dream

Muy buen regreso de Robin Beck. Si el álbum anterior fue bueno este es mejor, algo más parecido al rock melódico/AOR de sus comienzos. Recomendado. Buenas canciones y Robin Beck demostrando que es la mejor. 8,4/10.

Perdón por haber tenido el blog parado tanto tiempo. Al estar ocupado con el programa de radio no tengo mucho tiempo para escribir críticas, aunque no es mucho problema ya que podéis escuchar los discos en el programa de radio y haceros una opinión. Intentaré subir al menos las portadas de los que yo entiendo mejores álbumes que se editen, y mi puntuación con una mini crítica de una frase o dos. Saludos.

Este álbum ha resultado una verdadera sorpresa para mi. Jose Sanchez es un cantante chileno que es un gran fan del AOR clásico, hard rock y glam. Ha estado viviendo en Suecia durante mucho tiempo, cantando en un puñado de bandas de hard rock desde los ochenta. Ahora ha decidido editar su álbum en solitario, acompañado de un puñado de buenos músicos suecos que tocan en el, creando uno de los mejores álbumes con feeling ochentero que he oido en los últimos meses. Ha obtenido este fantástico resultado ya que ha trabajado duro en la composición de las canciones, las voces son impresionantes (Jose Sanchez tiene una gran voz), fantásticas guitarras y está lleno de energía y buena actitud. Os recordará a los mejores tiempos ochenteros de bandas como Victory, David Lee Roth/Van Halen, Whitesnake y muchas más. Recomiendo este álbum si os gusta el hard rock melódico con sonido clásico. No tengo dudas que puede ser uno de los mejores álbumes de hard rock de este año. Recomendado si os gustan las melodías y actitud ochentera. 8,6/10.

This album has been a real surprise for me. Jose Sanchez is a chilean singer who is a great fan of classic AOR, hard rock and glam. He has been living in Sweden for a long time, singing in some hard rock bands since the 80's. Now he decided to release his solo album together with some good Swedish musicians playing on it, creating one of the best albums with 80's feeling I have heard in the last months. He obteined this great result because this album has a hard songwriting, big and impressive vocals (Jose Sanchez has a powerful voice), great guitars and it is full of energy and good attitude. It will remind you of bands in their best 80's years like Victory, David Lee Roth/Van Halen, Whitesnake and many more. I recommend this album if you enjoy classic hard rock sound. I have no doubt this can be one of the best hard rock albums of this year. Recommended if you like 80's attitude and melodies. 8,6/10.

Shade - One Way Line

Desde que Texas abandonó el sonido que practicaban en sus primeros álbumes no habíamos tenido un claro exponente de pop/rock melódico con cantante femeníno. Shade es una banda con vocalista femenino que practica exactamente eso, matices. Diferentes matices y vertientes de rock melódico suave. Algunas canciones tienen un toque pop, otras están más cercanas al rock melódico. Además encontraréis una gran cantidad de baladas, y algunas canciones con guitarras acústicas. Este álbum es muy fácil de escuchar gracias a su buena calidad de producción y a la bonita voz de su vocalista Emma Shade. La banda tuvo algo de colaboración de miembros de los rockeros británicos Dare. Si os gusta el rock melódico con una voz bonita y no buscáis riffs y guitarras pesadas este es vuestro álbum. Rock melódico suave con algún toque de pop, bastantes baladas, todo "cocinado" con buen gusto. 7,9/10.

Since Texas walked away from the sound they practised in their firsts albums we haven't got a clear exponent of British melodic pop/rock with female singer. Shade is a band with a female vocalist which practices exactly that, shades. Different shades and slopes of melodic soft rock. Some songs have a pop touch, others are closer to melodic rock. Also you will find a big quantity of ballads, and some songs with acoustic guitars. This album is easy to listen to because of the production sound quality and the pretty voice of their vocalist Emma Shade. The band had some collaboration from members belonging to English melodic rockers Dare. If you like melodic rock with a pretty voice and you're not looking for heavy guitars this is your album. Soft melodic rock with rather pop touch, several ballads all "cooked" with good taste. 7,9/10.

Harlequin - Waking The Jester

Finalmente recibimos uno de los primeros álbumes editados bajo el sello Artist Service. El regreso, con esta edición europea, de la banda de rock clásico canadiense Harlequin. El único miembro original de la banda es el vocalista George Belanger que mantiene un buen nivel de voz y un buen estilo vocal. Harlequin editaron algunos álbumes a finales de los 70 y principios de los 80 cercanos al AOR pero con un montón de sonido clásico norteamericano de los setenta, country, blues, etc. Si estuchais las 13 canciones de este cd encontraréis una buena producción, interpretación y calidad. Para mi que intentan añadir un toque moderno de pop/rock a sus composiciones, pero siempre con ese sonido entre clásico y de los 70. Desafortunadamente algunas de las canciones no van por el buen camino, un poco modernas sus melodías (cercanas al pop) o algo cansinas de escuchar. De todos modos encontraréis que la mayoría de ellas son bastante buenas y la calidad global también. Para mi las mejores canciones son las más cercanas al feeling de los ochenta, con mejores melodías. Ha regresado una banda clásica del rock, intentando agradar a los viejos fans, e intentando conseguir nuevos. 7,6/10.

Finally we receive one of the first releases from the Artist Service label. The return, with this european edition, of the canadian classic rock band Harlequin. The only original member is vocalist George Belanger who keeps his good classic voice and vocal style. Harlequin made some albums in the end 70's and first 80's closer to the AOR but with a lot of classic north american sound, influences from the 70's, country, blues, etc. If you listen to the 13 songs of this cd you will find good production, playing and quality. I find they try to add a modern pop/rock touch in their composition, but always with that 70's and classic sound. Unfortunately some of the songs aren't going in the right, their melodies a bit too modern (closer to pop) or hard to listen to. Nevertheless, you will discover that most of them are quite good. For me the best songs are the ones closer to the 80's feeling, with better melodies. A classic rock band is back, trying to enjoy old fans, and wanting to get new ones. 7,6/10.

Soul Doctor - Blood Runs Cold

Cuarto álbum del proyecto rockero de Tommy Heart y Chrys Line retomado cerca del año 2000 cuando Tommy rompió con Fair Warning. En este cuarto lp podéis ver el camino que Soul Doctor siguió en su álbum previo. Canciones más hard-blues y menos melódicas que en sus dos primeros álbumes. Así la banda suena más dura. con un estilo a lo Whitesnake o Ken Tamplin. El sonido y la producción es impresionante, creo que mejor que en el último álbum de Fair Warning y podéis subir el volumen de vuestros altavoces sin nada de distorsión. Claro está con la buenisima voz de Tommy y las guitarras afiladas de Chris. Una canción ha sido compuesta por Joe Lynn Turner, Glenn Hughes y Stuart Smith. La única cosa mala del álbum es que las últimas canciones son buenas pero no al mismo nivel que las primeras 6 o 7. Estoy seguro que la maxi-canción de 10 minutos tributo a led zeppelin que viene de bonus de la primera edicíón añadirá interés a la totalidad del álbum. De todas maneras es un álbum recomendado. No deberías haber cruzado el rio forastero, Soul Doctor cabalga de nuevo. 8,2/10.

Fourth album from the rock project Tommy Heart and Chris Lyne took over near the year 2000 when Tommy broke with Fair Warning. In this fourth lp you can see the path Soul Doctor followed in the previous album. More hard-blues songs and less melodic rock ones than in their previous two albums. Then the band sounds harder with a Whitesnake, Ken Tamplin style. Sound production is impressive, I think better than the last Fair Warning album and you can raise the volume of your speakers without any distortion. Of course all with the great vocals of Tommy and sharpended guitars from Chris. One song has been composed by Joe Lynn Turner, Glenn Hughes and Stuart Smith. The only bad thing of the album is that the last songs are good but not at the same level of the first 6-7. It's sure that the bonus led zeppelin 10 minutes maxi-track cover in the first edition can add interest to the whole album. Anyway this is a recommended one. Stranger, you should not have crossed the river, Soul Doctor rides again. 8,2/10.

Human Zoo - Over The Horizon

Recibimos un álbum creado por varios ex-miembros de la banda de hard rock melódico suizo Subway junto con nuevos compañeros alemanes. Practican un fantástico rock que me recuerda un montón a Subway, la que fue una de las mejores bandas suizas de hard. Subway tenía una composición muy original a la que añadían composiciones con saxofón increibles y de mucha calidad. En este proyecto encontraréis melodías realmente buenas, la banda sobresaliente tocando, cantante de nivel alto, buena producción y sonido y un pedazo de ese sonido original de saxofón que nos hizo fans de Subway (aunque no en todas las canciones). Recomendamos este álbum hecho con estilo clásico. Al mismo nivel que su primer álbum, creo que este tendrá mejor distribución. Banda de calidad, seguiremos sus pasos en el futuro. Lo mejor que podíamos tomar de las cenizas de los rockeros suizos Subway. 8,4/10.

Here we receive an album created by ex-members of the swiss melodic hard rock band Subway and some new german friends. They play good melodic rock and it reminds me Subway a lot, which was one of the best swiss hard rock bands. Subway had an original composition adding incredibly quality saxophone playing to their hard rock songs. In this project you will find killer melodies with great perfomances, vocals, great song quality and a little bit of that original saxophone touch who made us love Subway (but not in all songs). We recommend this album made with classic sound. At the same level of their first album, I supose this one will have better distribution. A quality band, we will follow their steps in the future. The best we could get from the ashes of melodic swiss rockers Subway. 8,4/10.

Paul Sabu - Strange Messiah

Esto es la vuelta de uno de los más grandes productores musicales y músicos del rock. Pero no retorna solo. Vuelve componiendo algunas nuevas canciones de hard rock interpretadas por un montón de músicos conocidos de bandas de rock melódico, Michael Voss de Mad Max/Casanova, Angel G. Schleifer de Pretty Maids y Bonfire, y muchos más de bandas como Biss, Demon Drive, etc. Esperaba mucho de este disco pero no se me ha quedado una opinión perfecta. Algunas canciones están realmente bien y otras no están mal del todo (las canciones en general unas recuperan el estilo de los ochenta, las mejores, y otras más normales son algo más oscuras y con ritmos pesados).El fallo es que Paul canta demasiado chillón cuando canta alto. A mi me gustaba su voz rasgada cuando grabó su albúm con la banda Only Child del mismo título y su álbum Heartbreaker pero en este álbum acabas con los oidos destrozados. Algunas buenas canciones en un álbum bastante bueno de hard rock pero demasiado "duro" de escuchar. 7,3/10.

This is the return of one of the greatest and talented producers and rock musicians. But he doesn't return alone. He returns composing some hard rock songs played with well known musicians of melodic rock bands, Michael Voss of Mad Max/Casanova, Angel G. Schleifer of Pretty Maids and Bonfire, and many more from Biss, Demon Drive etc. I was expecting a lot of this album but I don't have a perfect opinion of it. Some songs are great and other are quite good (some songs remind the 80's sound, the best of them, and the others are darker, with slow and heavy riffs). The problem is that I think Paul screams too much when he sings high. I liked his rough voice when he recorded his self titled Only Child album and his Heartbreaker album but with this album you finish with your ears blasted. This album's voice production and singing makes you wanting to end listening to it. Some good songs in a quite good hard rock album but too "hard" to listen to it. 7,3/10.

Jet Trail - Edge Of Existence

Definitivamente este es un buen año para bandas con chicas al frente. Hemos recibido un nuevo ejemplo de una banda repleta de calidad con buenas melodías y buenas caciones. El álbum de Jet Trail contiene todo esto. Carolina me recuerda a bandas como Vixen (un poco más endurecidas), Allison, Alyson Avenue, Dante Fox y a unos Hydrogin más melódicos. Podéis encontrar lo mejor de estas bandas en todas las canciones desde el principio al fin de este disco. Además el trabajo conjunto en la producción es realmente bueno y suena sólido y potente. Las canciones tienen variedad y no parece que se repitan. Creo que será uno de los top albums de este año. Tenemos una nueva banda rompedora con chica al frente, llena de canciones originales, variedad y calidad. 8,3/10.

Definitively this year is a good year for female fronted bands. We receive a new example of a killer female fronted album with good melodies and good songs. Jet Trail album contains all of this. Carolina reminds me bands as Vixen (a bit harder), Allison, Alyson Avenue, Dante Fox, and a more melodic Hydrogin. You can find the best of these bands in this new melodic hard rock project. Try to find details of these bands in all songs from start to finish. Also the overall work in production is really good and it sounds strong and powerful. The songs have variety and they don't seem to repeat. I think this will be one of the top albums this year. We got a new killer female fronted project, full of original songs, variety and quality. 8,3/10.

Algunos meses atrás disfrutamos uno de los álbumes más melódicos de Ian Parry, Visions. Ahora Ian vuelve cn su proyecto de metal melódico progresivo por el sello Metal Heaven. Aquí nos encontramos con un albúm progresivo puro, más que su albúm melódico en solitario, y con algunas colaboraciones femeninas a las voces y algunos duetos en algunas canciones. Tiene una buena producción y sonido pero está más enfocado a fans del heavy metal y fans del progresivo. Algunas canciones de este abum tienen una influencia arábica en las melodías, pienso que igual que otros proyectos de progresivo también tienen. Buen album de metal melódico progresivo. Perfecto para fans del estilo. 7,5/10.

Some months ago we enjoyed one of the most melodic rock albums from Ian Parry, Visions. Now Ian returns with his progressive melodic metal project by the Metal Heaven label. Here we can find a pure progressive album, more than his melodic solo lp, and with some female vocal collaborations and duets in some songs. It has a good production and sound but this album is focused for heavy metal fans and fans of progressive. Some songs of this album have an arabic influence in their melodies, as I think some progressiv albums do. Good melodic progressive metal. Perfect for their fans. 7,5/10.

Imaginate que eres un gran fan del rock melódico y el AOR de los ochenta. Imagina que quieres crear un tributo a todas tus bandas favoritas como Kansas, Survivor, etc y a todos tus músicos favoritos. Bien, eso es lo que Lec Zorn ha preparado durante los últimos 20 años. Este álbum es un gran tributo, quiero decir GRAN tributo a los clásicos. Podéis escuchar una gran cantidad de canciones originales fantásticas para recordar a las mejores bandas dentro del género, Este álbum comienza con una canción con letras tributo a todos ellos pero cada canción es especial y cada canción es al menos tan buena como la anterior, o incluso más!. Además en este proyecto podés encontrar una versión brutal del tema de Kansas "Play The Game". Para hacer posible este proyecto Lec llamó a Tommy Denander y a un gran número de grandes músicos de rock melódico. como Mike Walsh, Tracy White (podría haer sido un perfecto vocalista de Survivor) , Eli Hludzik (batería de Dakota) y muchos más. Lec toca el bajo en todas las canciones. Quiero hablar de la canción Fighting Change por que esta canción tributa especialmente al Eye Of The Tiger de Survivor. Cuando la escuhas piensas, me recuerda al Eye Of The Tiger pero con una composición totalmente original. Sobre la producción no puede ser mejor, sonído nítido, llena de guitarras y coros brutales. Rock Melodico en su máxima expresión, AOR perfecto lleno de feeling. Podéis volver a los ochenta con este álbum. 9/10.

Imagine you are a big fan of melodic rock and AOR from the 80's, imagine you want to make a tribute to all your favourite bands like Kansas, Survivor, etc and to all your favourite musicians. Well, that's what Lec Zorn has prepared during the last 20 years. This album is a big tribute...I mean BIG tribute to the classics. You can listen to a lot of amazing original songs to remember the best bands in this genre. The album starts with a song with lyrics to tribute all of them but every song is special and every song is at least as good than the previous one, or even more!. Also in this project you can find a killer version of the song "Play The Game" from Kansas. To make this project possible Lec called Tommy Denander and a lot of great melodic rock musicians as Mike Walsh, Tracy White (he could have been a perfect Survivor singer), Eli Hludzik (Dakota's drummer) and many more. Lec plays bass on every song. I want to talk about the song Fighting Change because this song especially tributes Survivor's Eye of the Tiger. When you listen to it you think, it reminds Eye of the Tiger but with a complete original composition. About the production it couldn't be better, clear sound, full of killer choruses and guitars. Melodic rock as its best. perfect AOR plenty of feeling. You can back into the 80's with this album. 9/10.

Germusica empieza como sello discográfico con este nuevo album de la banda Shadowlnd. Este es un álbum de puro heavy metal melódico progresivo. Me recuerda a bandas como Dream Theater a causa de su vocalista Robert Forse, pero las canciones son menos instrumentales y se acercan más al estílo del heavy metal melódico, estando realmente bien construidas. Creo que las canciones suenan muy bien, que tienen buenos solos y guitarras, y que la producción es realmente buena haciendo que el álbum no sea repetitivo. Aunque algunas canciones son más progresivas, otrás están más cercanas al estilo de Black Sabbath en los 90 con Tony Martin (por intentar compararlo con otras bandas metálicas). No soy un especialista en progresivo pero creo que os gustará este álbum si disfrutáis con las diferentes vertientes del heavy metal. Melodico y progresivo, lo mejor de dos mundos para disfrutar con un buen álbum de heavy metal. 7,9/10.

Germusica starts as a label with this new album from the band Shadowland. This is a pure melodic progressive heavy metal band. It reminds me bands like Dream Theater because of the vocals of Robert Forse, but the songs are less instrumental, more in the vein of melodic heavy metal, and well build. I think their songs sound great, they have good solos and guitars, and production is really good making the album not repetitive. Although some songs are more progressive, others are near to the Black Sabbath 90's style with Tony Martin (I try to compare it with other metal albums). I am not a specialist in progressive but I think you will like this album if you enjoy different ways of heavy metal. Melodic and progressive, the best of both worlds to enjoy a good heavy metal album. 7,9/10.

Skankis - Take Your Change

Nos encontramos con un nuevo album de hard rock meódico producido por Thorn Blunier de los Shakra. Skansis, una nueva banda suiza , han debutado con este Take Your Chance con un sonido que podéis imaginar por su productor y su país.. Son una mezcla entre Shakra y Gotthard. Las voces son un poco rasgadas similares al cantante de Bonfire. La producción y el sonido es bastante bueno y os gustarán los temas si os gustan bandas como las que he nombrado antes (Bonfire, Gotthard, Sharka...) pero un paso por detrás en calidad. Aceptable hard rock melódico, buen esfuerzo con calidad medida. 7,2/10.

This is a new album of melodic hard rock produced by Thom Blunier (Shakra). Tengo que decir que no soy un experto en rock progresivo. De todas maneras tengo que hablar sobre este álbum porque es una mezcla entre rock melódico y rock progresivo y es fácil de escuchar para ambos tipos de fans, si es que te gustan las canciones muy muy largas claro (de 8 a 10 minutos). Además muchas de las canciones tienen un montón de parte instrumental. Como el sonido y el trabajo instrumental es bueno, y las voces se pueden situar dentro del estílo de rock melódico puedo recomendar este álbum. Rock melódico progresivo de calidad. Cómpralo solo si te gustan los álbumes instrumentales, progresivos y con canciones muy largas. 7,8/10.

I have to say that I am not expert in progressive rock music. Anyway I want to talk about this album because it is a mix between melodic rock and progressive rock and it is easy to listen to both kind of fans, if you enjoy very long songs (8 to 10 minutes). Also most of the songs have a lot of instrumental parts, vocals are only in a short part of them. Because the sound and instrumental work is good, and vocals are involved in the melodic rock style I can recommend this album. Quality progressive melodic rock album. Buy it only if you like very much progressive, instrumental and long songs. 7,8/10.

Voices Of Rock - MMVII

Nuevo proyecto melódico de Michael Voss (Mad Max, Casanova, Demon Drive, Silver) y Chris Lausmann (Bonfire). Ellos han producido este álbum y han realizado el trabajo compositivo y mucho del instrumental. Como he dicho este es un proyecto de rock melódico con algo de sonido AOR. En este álbum puedes encontrar un buen trabajo vocal de un montón de buenos músicos (James Christian, Jean Beauvoir, Steve Overland, Robin Beck, etc) hasta completar 10 canciones con 10 cantantes diferentes. También encontraras una fantástica producción y unos buenos solos y guitarras a cargo de Michael y Chris. Calidad para hacerse con él. 8/10.

Manitou - No Signs Of Wisdom

Nuevo álbum de la banda finlandesa de heavy melódico Manitou. Como podéis suponer nos encontramos con un álbum de heavy melódico aunque con la sorpresa que es bastante más melódico que el anterior y no abusa de los temas a doble bombo y de ritmo rápido. Incluso rozan el hard rock melódico en algunos temas. Así como bandas como Shakra se han endurecido en este No Signs Of Wisdom hay más melodía y variedad en los temas que en muchos discos de heavy que acaban siendo algo repetitivos. La producción, sonido y el conjunto son bastante destacables. Buen trabajo.Buen disco de heavy melódico que se acerca al hard rock. Destacable y bastante recomendado. 7,8/10.

New album from the heavy metal band Manitou from Finland. This is a more melodic album than their previous one. It doesn't have a lot of up-tempo and power songs. They are more in the vein of melodic heavy-hard rock. Other bands like Shakra walk the opposite way. In my opinion No Signs Of Wisdom has more song variety because of that. Production and effort is quite good. Good work.Good melodic heavy with feeling near to hard rock. Recommended. 7,8/10.

White Wolf - Victim Of The Spotlight

Escape Music 2007.

Nuevo trabajo de la banda clásica White Wolf. Unos 20 años han pasado desde sus dos trabajos de los años 84 y 86 respectivamente ahora reeditados también por Escape Music. Sorpresa muy agradable ya que el sonido y la composición son muy similares a sus clásicos aunque con producción y algún toque actual. Recomendado para fans de DIO y los Rainbow más melódicos con toques AOR. Las composiciones son bastante variadas y buenas voces de Don Wolf que suena a un Gary Barden más melódico.
Muy buen albúm, recomendado para tu colección. Por encima de la media actual de álbumes. 8/10.

New album from the classics White Wolf. A very good album with clear sound and good songs. Similar to their first and second album with a 21th century production. You will enjoy it if you like the most melodic DIO and Rainbow albums with AOR touch. Also good vocals from Don Wolf, with a similar voice to Gary Barden.
Very good album, recommended for your collection. Better quality than other albums of this year. 8/10.
